Description
The conservation and restoration interventions of the painted facades of historic buildings involve not only the artifacts, as a single expression of culture, but also the various aggregations that make up the urban landscape or that, in a broader sense, characterize a territory For this reason, the “Progetto del Colore ” has addressed the theme of the conservation of historical color, at all scalar levels, in order to create a critical mass of knowledge that constitutes the documentary basis to draw upon for a correct intervention proposal. It follows that in the present work, the role of the survey has been assumed as a founding value, understood as a process of global, multidisciplinary, and in-depth knowledge of color including both the ’esthetic ”” ’ ’ aspect ’ the “technical ” of the current state of historical buildings at various scales. Among the investigations carried out at the territorial scale, those related to the built context (overall photographic survey, existing urban planning tools, statistical data), to the historical context (archival, cartographic, and bibliographic survey). Among the investigations carried out on an urban scale, those referable to the natural context (exhibition survey), to the built context (color values of context, architectural survey of urban fronts, identification of construction techniques), and the historical context (historical and current photographic survey of the “Progetto del Colore ”). Among the investigations carried out at the building scale, those referable to the built context (architectural survey, color, the deterioration of the single facade and the decorative system) and to the historical context (mineralogical and laboratory analysis of the supports and colors) . The logical path that leads to the design, construction, and monitoring of an intervention on a painted facade has therefore been divided into different phases og none of which has peculiar characteristics but is closely related to the others with which it shares the criteria and sometimes the methods.
The identified phases are the following:
I PHASE: ELABORATION OF THE CARDING SYSTEM
II PHASE: THE SURVEY OF THE BUILDING
III PHASE: THE DIAGNOSIS OF THE BUILT
IV PHASE: THE INTERVENTION PROJECT
